Biography
Since taking over the family farm in Lüssow near Stralsund in Northeastern Germany in 2018, Mathias Zeitke has restructured the farming operation. Ploughs and grubbers have been banned. On his 500-hectar-farm he completely uses no-till practices and relies on regenerative agriculture measures.
Mathias Zeitke produces wheat, barley, corn, rapeseed, and cover crop mixtures. Only one important regenerative measure used on his farm is mob grazing with sheep as a matter of nutrient management and to protect his fields from drought and erosion. For a higher N-efficiency he uses the “Controlled Uptake Long Term Ammonium Nutrition” (CULTAN) approach. Therewith Mathias Zeitke is one of the pioneers of regenerative agriculture in Germany who was awarded with a CERES AWARD in 2023.
Matthias Zeitke will represent BAT Agrar with their CO2NSERVE program and will discuss opportunities and challenges of regenerative and carbon farming.
